Pagliacci is an international Metal Opera project masterminded by keyboardist Zhivko Koev (Vivaldi Metal Project, ex-Allegorist), featuring musicians from all over the world such as: Mistheria (Bruce Dickinson, Rob Rock) on piano and keytar, Benjamin Lechuga (Delta, Lechuga) on acoustic guitar, Julie Bélanger Roy (Märchenbilder, Gone in April) on viola, Georgy Latev (Ghost Warfare) on guitar and bass and others. It also features four vocalists each playing the part of one of the characters in the story: Dimitar Naydev, Katerina Simeonova, Dimitar Belchev and Elitsa Stoyanova. And let's not forget The Choir Of The Mad! This EP is a concept album, introducing the world, story and some of the characters featured in Pagliacci’s work. It also serves as a bridge between their upcoming first and second full-length albums, featuring characters from both and connecting their narratives. Starting with a brief spoken acoustic intro with speech by Elitsa Stoyanova that then takes us into 'Black Flowers' with dual vocals from Katerina Simeonova & Dimitar Naydev, coupled with a catchy chorus to boot. The same vocalist take the lead on 'So Sane', while on the sombre 'Wise Men and Lunatics' Katerina Simeonova takes the female lead. The EP closes with the complex 'Calling Melchizedek'. This is a good effort and has me looking forward to the full length albums. Check out their facebook pages here. EP is released 8th June.. 8/10 (Dave)
