Tour History

Thin Lizzy is an Irish hardrock band. The core of the band was singer and bassist Phil Lynott (1949-1986) and drummer Brian Downey.

The line-up of the band has changed over the years.

Besides frontman singer/bassist Phil Lynott were the remarkable members Brian Robertson and Scott Gorham

Gary Moore played guitar on a few songs, but his role in the band was not very big. Characteristic of the group was the arrangement in which two lead guitarists were central. This arrangement was later often copied by bands like Iron Maiden. Phil Lynott was known as an extravagant but brilliant singer, bassist, composer and poet.

One of the first songs that was released, was Whiskey in the jar, a hardrock version of an Irish traditional. Later this song was released in an even harder version by Metalica. (song) The big breakthrough of Thin Lizzy came with the song The boys are back in town (1976). In 1983 the band ceased to exist.

Phil Lynott initially founded another band (Grand Slam), but it never had a lot of succes. As a solo-artist had Phil Lynott several successes, of which         Old Town is the best known. Later The Corrs covered this song. Together with Gary Moore, "Parisienne Walkways" became a classic. Less well known is "Kings' Call" with Mark Knopfler on guitar.

On Christmas Day 1985, after a Christmas party, Phil Lynott was taken to a clinic in Salisbury, due to liver and kidney failure. He eventually died on January 4, 1986 to heart failure and pneumonia. The years of drug use, and especially heroin, had shed his body.

There is still a tribute happening in Dublin, Ireland, the Vibe for Philo, every year during the death day of Philip Lynott, with Lynott's mother (Philomena) was always playing a prominent role and giving many coverbands act the présence. Dutch Thin Lizzy cover bands also played there often.

On August 19, 2005, the day before Philip Lynott had become 56, Grafton Street in Dublin revealed a life-sized statue of him. The day after, Philip received a tribute concert with Gary Moore, assisted by the most important members of Thin Lizzy: Brian DowneyScott GorhamBrian Robertson,  and  Eric Bell.

Scott Gorham and John Sykes have started the band again under the name Thin Lizzy a few years ago. They where touring under that name with Michael Lee on drums and Marco Mendoza on bass. John Sykes took charge of the vocals and guitar. Scott Gorham completed the band with his recognizable guitar work. In 2007, Michael Lee left the band and Tommy Aldridge took his place.

Later on, John Sykes went back with his own musicians under the name of John Sykes. The 2009 Thin Lizzy Tour therefore was expired.

The year after, Scott Gorham once again set up a new lineup of Thin Lizzy, which where touring from January 2011. The first 13 concert dates in the UK were scheduled, including a performance at the memorial in Dublin on January 4, Philip Lynott's 25th anniversary.

In addition to original band members Scott Gorham, drummer Brian Downey and keyboardist Darren Wharton, former Whitesnake bassist Marco Mendoza, Def Leppard and Dio guitarist Vivian Campbell and The Almighty singer,Ricky Warwick completed the lineup.

On February 6, 2011, old Thin Lizzy member Gary Moore died.
